Star Trek in High Definition

Posted by Jon on October 29th, 2007

star_trek.jpgI just watched a video about some of the work that went into the Star Trek Season One HD-DVD. It was pretty interesting that the soundtrack was re-recorded and some effects, such as the Enterprise orbiting a planet, were recreated to add more realism.

Measurements were taken of the model of the U.S.S. Enterprise from the Smithsonian, so that the Enterprise could be recreated digitally and shown in never-seen-before angles.

Star Trek Season One HD-DVD/DVD combo is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2007, but it is available for pre-order now. Yes, you read that right. This will be a combo set that won’t leave standard-def DVD users out in the cold.

The videos can be seen here.

30 Days of Night

Posted by Jon on October 23rd, 2007

I saw 30 Days of Night in the theater this weekend. I don’t generally enjoy vampire movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. There was a genuine sense of evil emanating from the villains. The film had a good amount of suspense as well.

My only complaint was the pace of the film. Before I knew it, the “30 days” was almost over, leaving with the feeling that there could have been more storyline interwoven into what I saw.

It was only after seeing the film that I was informed that it was based on the graphics novels of the same name (see below).
